What Is a Personal Year Number and How Do You Calculate It?

Your personal year number shows which year of your nine-year cycle you are in. Add your birth day, your birth month and the year you want to check, then reduce the total to one digit. Each number from 1 to 9 has its own theme, from new beginnings in year 1 to finishing and letting go in year 9.

  1. Take your birth day and birth month only. Your birth year is not used here.
  2. Add the year you want to check, for example 2026.
  3. Add the digits of the total, and keep adding until one digit is left.
  4. That digit, from 1 to 9, is your personal year number for that year.
  5. The next year, the number goes up by one. After 9 it starts again at 1.

Worked example

For 2026, someone born on 14 August: 14 + 8 + 2026 = 2048, then 2 + 0 + 4 + 8 = 14, then 1 + 4 = 5. Personal year 5 in 2026.

For 2027, someone born on 14 August: 14 + 8 + 2027 = 2049, then 2 + 0 + 4 + 9 = 15, then 1 + 5 = 6. Personal year 6 in 2027.

The nine-year cycle

Personal years run in a cycle of nine. Year 1 starts something new, the middle years build it, grow it and test it, year 8 tends to bring results, and year 9 closes the chapter so the next cycle can begin. Knowing where you stand helps you choose when to push and when to wait.

Personal month

Inside each year, every month has its own number too. Add your personal year number to the calendar month (January is 1, December is 12) and reduce it to one digit. The free Year Ahead check shows this month's number for you.

Personal year and Bhagyank

Your Bhagyank comes from your full date of birth and stays the same all your life. Your personal year changes every year. Bhagyank shows the road you walk; the personal year shows the season you are walking through.

Frequently asked questions

What is a personal year number?

It is a number from 1 to 9 that shows which year of your nine-year cycle you are in. It comes from your birth day, your birth month and the current year, and it changes every year.

How do I calculate my personal year for 2026?

Add your birth day, your birth month and 2026, then reduce. Born on 14 August? 14 + 8 + 2026 = 2048, then 2 + 0 + 4 + 8 = 14, then 1 + 4 = 5, so your personal year in 2026 is 5.

What will my personal year be in 2027?

Add one to your number for 2026 (after 9 comes 1), or do the sum again with 2027. Born on 14 August? 14 + 8 + 2027 = 2049, then 2 + 0 + 4 + 9 = 15, then 1 + 5 = 6, so it is personal year 6 in 2027.

Do I use my birth year?

No. Only your birth day and birth month are added to the year you are checking. Your birth year is used for your Bhagyank, not for your personal year.

Why does the free check show next year?

From October to December, the free Year Ahead check reads the coming year, so you can plan ahead. From January to September it reads the current year.

Is any personal year bad?

No. Each year has its own job. Some years suit starting and pushing, others suit building, resting or finishing. Knowing the theme helps you work with the year instead of against it.
