Quick answer
Dhanteras 2026 is on Friday, 6 November. The puja muhurat in New Delhi is 6:02 PM to 7:57 PM (Drik Panchang). Buy only what you need and can afford. If you want a Mulank touch: gold or copper suits Mulank 1, silver suits 2 and 6, brass suits 3. Most families skip sharp, iron and black items.
Find your Mulank: add the digits of the day you were born until one digit is left. Born on the 24th? 2 + 4 = 6, so your Mulank is 6. For the full reading with your planet, lucky days and colours, use the free [Find your Mulank](/mulank) check.

Budget first, no pressure
Dhanteras is not a test of how much you spend. Akanshha does not tell any Mulank that it must buy something special, and she never pushes anyone to buy. Buy what your home needs, within your budget, with no money stress. As she puts it, “Bhagwan bhav dekhte hai”: God looks at the feeling behind it, not the price. If you want one simple numerology step, work with your Mulank’s Friendly numbers (for example, how many pieces you buy). The item ideas below are gentle options, not rules.

Dhanteras 2026 date and timings
All times are for New Delhi, taken from Drik Panchang (drikpanchang.com, Dhanteras page set to New Delhi). Other cities differ by a few minutes to about half an hour, so check your own city there.
| What | Date and time (New Delhi) |
|---|---|
| Dhanteras (Dhantrayodashi) | Friday, 6 November 2026 |
| Trayodashi tithi | 10:30 AM, 6 Nov to 10:47 AM, 7 Nov |
| Pradosh Kaal | 5:33 PM to 8:09 PM |
| Vrishabha Kaal | 6:02 PM to 7:57 PM |
| Dhanteras puja muhurat | 6:02 PM to 7:57 PM (1 hour 56 minutes) |
| Yama Deepam | Friday, 6 November 2026 (evening) |
Shopping is usually done any time the Trayodashi tithi is running, which this year starts at 10:30 AM on 6 November. Many families prefer to bring the item home before the evening puja so it can be placed in front of Lakshmi, Kuber and Dhanvantari.
What Dhanteras is about
Dhanteras falls on the 13th day (Trayodashi) of the dark half of Kartik. It honours Dhanvantari, who is said to have come out of the ocean churning (samudra manthan) holding a pot of amrit, which is why buying a new vessel is the oldest Dhanteras custom. Kuber (wealth) and Lakshmi are worshipped in the evening, and a lamp for Yamraj (Yama Deepam) is lit facing south outside the house.
What is traditionally bought: gold, silver, brass, copper or steel utensils, a new broom (jhadu), whole coriander seeds (sabut dhania), a Lakshmi-Ganesh idol or coin, gomti chakra and new account books (bahi khata). Customs differ by region and family. Follow your family’s way first; the Mulank notes below help you choose inside it.
The numbers of the day
Using the same rules as our free tools:
- •6 November is a 6 date, ruled by Venus (Shukra). Venus is linked with silver, beauty, the home and comfort, which fits a festival about bringing new things home.
- •The full date 06-11-2026 adds up to 0+6+1+1+2+0+2+6 = 18, and 1 + 8 = 9, ruled by Mars (Mangal).
In our friendship table, 6 is a Friendly number for Mulank 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, Neutral for Mulank 2 and 9, and an Enemy number only for Mulank 3. That does not make the day wrong for anyone. It only suggests Mulank 3 keep the purchase simple.
What to buy on Dhanteras by Mulank
Each section uses your ruling planet, your lucky colours and your Friendly numbers exactly as our Mulank and Lucky Number tools show them. “Count” means how many pieces to buy, for example coins or utensils. These are gentle options if they fit your budget, not rules.

Mulank 1 (born on 1, 10, 19, 28) · Sun (Surya)
- •If it fits your budget: a gold coin, gold jewellery, or a copper lota you can use to offer water to the Sun every morning. Gold and copper are the metals tradition links with the Sun.
- •Colours to pick: golden, orange, yellow (your lucky colours). A yellow or orange cloth to wrap the coin works well.
- •Count: 1, 3 or 5 pieces. Your Friendly numbers are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 9.
- •Go easy on: iron items and anything black. 8 (Saturn) is the one Enemy number for Mulank 1, and Saturn rules iron and black.
- •Why: the 6th is a Friendly date for you, so if a planned purchase is already in your budget, this is a comfortable day for it.
Mulank 2 (born on 2, 11, 20, 29) · Moon (Chandra)
- •If it fits your budget: silver. A silver coin, a silver glass for drinking water or milk, or a small silver bowl. Silver is the Moon’s metal.
- •Colours to pick: white, cream, light green.
- •Count: 1, 2, 3 or 5. Counts of 4, 8 and 9 are less friendly for you.
- •Go easy on: black items, iron and anything made of glass that can crack (many families avoid glass on Dhanteras anyway).
- •Why: the 6th is Neutral for Mulank 2. Buy the silver item you really need and keep the rest of the shopping for another day.
Mulank 3 (born on 3, 12, 21, 30) · Jupiter (Guru)
- •If it fits your budget: brass (pital) utensils, a gold coin, a brass diya, new account books or a pen for your work. Brass and gold are linked with Jupiter, and Jupiter rules learning and good advice.
- •Colours to pick: yellow, violet. Haldi and chana dal are good things to keep in your puja too.
- •Count: 1, 2, 3 or 5. A count of 6 is less friendly for you.
- •Go easy on: big spends on make-up, perfume or luxury décor on this date. 6 (Venus) is your one Enemy number and Dhanteras falls on the 6th, so luxury buys can wait for another day.
- •Why: you do not need a costly item. A brass lota and new bahi khata fit your planet well.
Mulank 4 (born on 4, 13, 22, 31) · Rahu
- •If it fits your budget: silver or steel utensils, a new broom (jhadu), sabut dhania and gomti chakra. These are practical, everyday things, which suits Rahu people best.
- •Colours to pick: blue, grey.
- •Count: 1, 5, 6 or 7. Counts of 2, 4, 8 and 9 are less friendly for you.
- •Go easy on: buying on credit or a new EMI. Rahu is linked with sudden, impulsive moves, and Dhanteras is about bringing wealth in, so paying in full feels better. Most families also skip sharp items like knives and scissors.
- •Why: the 6th is a Friendly date for Mulank 4, so a useful item paid in full is a good fit.
Mulank 5 (born on 5, 14, 23) · Mercury (Budh)
- •If it fits your budget: sabut dhania (green coriander seeds are a classic Dhanteras buy and green is your colour), a kansa (bronze) plate or bowl, account books, or something for your work like a phone or laptop if you truly need one. Mercury rules business and talking.
- •Colours to pick: green, light grey.
- •Count: 1, 3, 5 or 6. Mulank 5 has no Enemy number in our table.
- •Go easy on: many small, unplanned buys. Mercury makes you quick to decide, so make a list before you step out.
- •Why: the 6th is Friendly for you. After the puja, sow a few of the dhania seeds in a pot; it is an old custom many families follow.
Mulank 6 (born on 6, 15, 24) · Venus (Shukra)
- •If it fits your budget: silver (coin, anklet, utensil), new kitchen vessels, or something beautiful for the home such as a set of brass or silver diyas. Dhanteras falls on your own number this year.
- •Colours to pick: white, pink, light blue.
- •Count: 1, 5, 6 or 7. A count of 3 is less friendly for you.
- •Go easy on: buying for show. Venus loves beautiful things, and Dhanteras can pull you into overspending. One good item is better than five.
- •Why: the date and your Mulank are both 6, so a home item bought today is a natural fit.
Mulank 7 (born on 7, 16, 25) · Ketu
- •If it fits your budget: a Lakshmi-Ganesh idol or silver coin, a brass or silver diya, gomti chakra or puja items you will actually use. Ketu is the spiritual planet, so puja items suit you more than gadgets.
- •Colours to pick: green, light yellow.
- •Count: 1, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Mulank 7 has no Enemy number.
- •Go easy on: costly, unplanned gadgets and anything bought only because others are buying it.
- •Why: the 6th is Friendly for Mulank 7. A quiet, meaningful buy works better for you than a big one.
Mulank 8 (born on 8, 17, 26) · Saturn (Shani)
- •If it fits your budget: steel utensils and a new broom. Saturn is the planet of work and cleaning, and the broom is the Dhanteras item most linked with sweeping out the old.
- •Colours to pick: dark blue. Black is one of your lucky colours, but on Dhanteras most families keep black out of the shopping, so choose dark blue for this day.
- •Count: 3, 5, 6 or 7. Counts of 1, 2, 4 and 8 are less friendly for you.
- •Go easy on: iron. Saturn’s metal is iron, but tradition keeps iron out of Dhanteras shopping, so keep any iron purchase for a Saturday.
- •Why: the 6th is a Friendly date for Mulank 8. A plain, useful item fits Saturn better than jewellery bought on impulse.
Mulank 9 (born on 9, 18, 27) · Mars (Mangal)
- •If it fits your budget: a copper vessel, a red cloth for the puja, or a gold coin. Copper is linked with Mars.
- •Colours to pick: red, pink.
- •Count: 1, 3 or 5. Counts of 2 and 4 are less friendly for you.
- •Go easy on: knives, scissors and other sharp tools. Mars already rules cutting and anger, and sharp items are the most widely avoided Dhanteras buy.
- •Why: the 6th is Neutral for you, and the full date adds up to 9, your own number. Stick to one planned item.
From Akanshha Joshii
“Before Dhanteras, people mostly ask me whether gold, silver or a vehicle will be auspicious for their Mulank, and which colour or item could be lucky for them. I don’t tell any Mulank to buy something special. If I see something in a person’s chart, I explain it, but I never force it. My advice is simple: work with the Friendly numbers of your Mulank. That works best.”
Common mistakes on Dhanteras
The biggest one, in Akanshha's words
“The biggest mistake is shopping without need, only because of tradition or because others are buying. On Dhanteras, buy according to your budget and your real need. Don’t take on money pressure, because God looks at your feeling (bhagwan bhav dekhte hai). Keep that feeling good.”
- Buying on the wrong day. In 2026 Dhanteras is on 6 November, not 7 November. The Trayodashi tithi ends at 10:47 AM on 7 November (New Delhi, Drik Panchang).
- Bringing home an empty vessel. Put a little water, rice or sweets in a new utensil before it enters the house. Many families never bring a new pot home empty.
- Buying sharp, iron or black items. Knives, scissors, iron and black things are the most common “do not buy” list across North India.
- Taking a loan or EMI for the purchase. The festival is about bringing wealth in, so pay for what you can afford today. This matters most for Mulank 4 and 8.
- Choosing the item only by price. A small silver coin that suits your Mulank is a better Dhanteras buy than a big gadget you did not need.
- Using your Bhagyank or sun sign for this list. This page uses your Mulank (birth day only). Your Bhagyank (full date) and your name number add more detail, and the free Mulank check shows both.
- Forgetting Yama Deepam. Light one diya facing south outside the main door on Dhanteras evening. It is part of the day, not an extra.
FAQ
Tap a question
When is Dhanteras 2026 and what is the shopping muhurat?
Dhanteras 2026 is on Friday, 6 November. In New Delhi the puja muhurat is 6:02 PM to 7:57 PM and the Trayodashi tithi runs from 10:30 AM on 6 November to 10:47 AM on 7 November (Drik Panchang). Shopping is done while the tithi is running, ideally before the evening puja.
What to buy on Dhanteras for good luck?
The most common items are gold, silver, a brass, copper or steel utensil, a new broom, whole coriander seeds and a Lakshmi-Ganesh coin or idol. By Mulank: gold or copper for 1, silver for 2 and 6, brass for 3, steel and a broom for 4 and 8, coriander or a bronze bowl for 5, puja items for 7, copper for 9.
What should we not buy on Dhanteras?
Sharp items (knives, scissors), iron, black items, glass that can break and empty vessels are the items most families avoid. It is also better not to start a loan or EMI just for Dhanteras.
Dhanteras: what to buy, gold or silver?
Both are traditional. By numerology, gold fits Mulank 1 and 3 (Sun and Jupiter) and silver fits Mulank 2 and 6 (Moon and Venus). If you are not sure, a small silver coin suits every Mulank.
What to buy on Dhanteras according to rashi or Mulank?
A rashi list uses your Moon sign. This page uses your Mulank, the number of the day you were born, which is the same number our free tools read. Find your Mulank in the box above and go to your section.
What to buy on Dhanteras in silver?
A silver coin with Lakshmi-Ganesh, a silver glass or bowl, silver anklets or toe rings, or a small silver diya. Silver suits Mulank 2 and 6 most, and it is a safe choice for everyone.
What if I cannot buy gold or silver this Dhanteras?
Buy a new broom, whole coriander seeds or one steel or brass utensil. These are just as traditional, cost very little, and are bought in almost every home.
How we worked this out
- •Dates and timings: Drik Panchang, Dhanteras 2026 page set to New Delhi (checked 30 Oct 2026). We did not round or change the times.
- •Traditional items: the common North Indian Dhanteras customs (vessel, metal, broom, coriander, Yama Deepam). Customs vary by family and region.
- •Mulank, planet, colours and numbers: the same data our free tools use. Mulank = birth day reduced to one digit. Lucky colours come from our report data. Lucky counts are Akanshha Joshii’s Friendly numbers for each Mulank, and “less friendly” counts are her Enemy numbers. The planet-to-metal links (Sun gold or copper, Moon silver, Jupiter gold or brass, Mercury bronze, Venus silver, Saturn iron, Mars copper) are traditional.
- •Nothing here promises money or results. It helps you choose inside a custom you already follow.
