Lakshmi Puja 2026 by Mulank: Diyas, Direction, Mantra

Quick answer

Lakshmi Puja 2026 is on Sunday, 8 November, muhurat 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM in New Delhi (Drik Panchang). Keep the altar in the north-east or north and sit facing east or north. Then add your Mulank touch: a diya count from your Friendly numbers, one extra diya in your lucky direction, your planet’s bhog and its mantra.

Find your Mulank: add the digits of the day you were born until one digit is left. Born on the 29th? 2 + 9 = 11, 1 + 1 = 2, so your Mulank is 2. Full reading free in [Find your Mulank](/mulank).

The base puja (same for every Mulank)

The Mulank tips are added on top of your family’s normal puja. They do not replace it.

  1. Clean first. Clean the house and the puja corner during the day, make a rangoli at the door, and put a toran on the main door.
  2. Place the altar in the north-east (Ishan) or north. Vastu links the north with Kuber and wealth and the north-east with the gods. Put a red or yellow cloth on a chowki and place Lakshmi and Ganesh on it.
  3. Sit facing east or north. Avoid sitting so that you face south during the puja.
  4. Ganesh first, then Lakshmi. Start with “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah”, then the Lakshmi mantra “Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah”. One mala (108) of the Lakshmi mantra is the standard count for everyone.
  5. One big ghee diya in front of Lakshmi that burns through the night, plus diyas at the door, windows, kitchen, tulsi and water tap.
  6. Offer kheel-batashe, sweets, a lotus or marigold flowers, and the coins or items you bought on Dhanteras.
Lakshmi Puja checklist, same for every Mulank

The numbers of Lakshmi Puja night

  • •8 November is an 8 date (Saturn).
  • •The full date 08-11-2026 adds up to 20, which is 2 (Moon). Diwali is the Amavasya, the one night the Moon is not seen.

Your own numbers matter more than the date’s. Use the Friendly numbers in your section for diya counts and mantra rounds.

Lakshmi Puja tips by Mulank

For each Mulank: extra diyas (a count that adds up to one of your Friendly numbers), your direction (one more diya in that part of the house; the altar itself stays north-east or north), bhog and flowers linked with your planet in tradition, and your planet mantra from our reports with a round count that fits your numbers.

Chart: extra diyas, direction diya and bhog for Mulank 1 to 9

Mulank 1 (born on 1, 10, 19, 28) · Sun (Surya)

  • •Extra diyas: 11 (adds to 2) or 21 (adds to 3).
  • •Your direction: East. Light one ghee diya on the east side of the house, near a window if you can.
  • •Bhog and flowers: something with jaggery (gud) or wheat, like gud-wheat laddoo; orange marigold.
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Suryaya Namah”, 21 times or a full 108 (108 adds to 9, a Friendly number for you).
  • •Keep in mind: 8 is your Enemy number and the date is an 8. Do not worry about it; keep your own counts in 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 or 9.

Mulank 2 (born on 2, 11, 20, 29) · Moon (Chandra)

  • •Extra diyas: 11 (2) or 21 (3).
  • •Your direction: North-west. A diya in the north-west corner of the house.
  • •Bhog and flowers: kheer, white batashe or a milk sweet; white flowers like mogra or white roses.
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Chandraya Namah”, 11 or 21 times.
  • •Keep in mind: avoid diya counts that add to 4, 8 or 9 (like 13, 17 or 27). The full date adds to 2, your own number.

Mulank 3 (born on 3, 12, 21, 30) · Jupiter (Guru)

  • •Extra diyas: 21 (3) or 5.
  • •Your direction: North-east, the same corner as the altar. Your extra diya can sit right beside the main one.
  • •Bhog and flowers: besan laddoo, banana, a pinch of haldi on the chowki; yellow marigold.
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Gurave Namah”, 21 times.
  • •Keep in mind: avoid counts that add to 6 (like 15 or 51), your Enemy number.

Mulank 4 (born on 4, 13, 22, 31) · Rahu

  • •Extra diyas: 5, 7 or 51 (adds to 6).
  • •Your direction: South-west. Put one diya in the south-west part of the house, but sit facing east or north for the puja itself.
  • •Bhog and flowers: a whole coconut (Rahu is linked with coconut in tradition) and kheel-batashe; blue aparajita flowers if you can find them, or marigold.
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Rahave Namah”, 51 times (adds to 6) or 25 times (adds to 7).
  • •Keep in mind: your Enemy numbers are 2, 4, 8 and 9. Skip counts like 11, 13, 17 and 27.

Mulank 5 (born on 5, 14, 23) · Mercury (Budh)

  • •Extra diyas: 5 or 51 (6).
  • •Your direction: North, the direction of Kuber. If the altar is in the north, your extra diya goes right next to it.
  • •Bhog and flowers: green elaichi, moong dal halwa or any sweet with pista; durva grass for Ganesh (green, and Ganesh’s favourite).
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Budhaya Namah”, 21 or 51 times.
  • •Keep in mind: Mulank 5 has no Enemy number. Place your new account books or business papers near Ganesh, since Mercury rules business.

Mulank 6 (born on 6, 15, 24) · Venus (Shukra)

  • •Extra diyas: 7 or 51 (6).
  • •Your direction: South-east, the Agni (fire) corner. This is the natural place for a diya, so light yours in the south-east of the house or kitchen.
  • •Bhog and flowers: kheer with mishri, white sweets; pink lotus or pink roses, and a little itr (perfume) on the flowers.
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Shukraya Namah”, 51 or 25 times.
  • •Keep in mind: avoid counts that add to 3 (like 21 or 12), your Enemy number.

Mulank 7 (born on 7, 16, 25) · Ketu

  • •Extra diyas: 5, 21 (3) or 31 (4).
  • •Your direction: South-west. One diya in the south-west part of the house.
  • •Bhog and flowers: til-gud laddoo or kheel-batashe; light yellow or mixed flowers.
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Ketave Namah”, 21 or 31 times.
  • •Keep in mind: Ketu people often prefer a quiet puja. Sit for five minutes after the aarti in silence before the celebrations start.

Mulank 8 (born on 8, 17, 26) · Saturn (Shani)

  • •Extra diyas: 7, 21 (3) or 51 (6).
  • •Your direction: West. One diya on the west side of the house. Many families also light a mustard oil diya at the main door for Saturn.
  • •Bhog and flowers: til (sesame) laddoo along with the usual sweets; blue aparajita or marigold.
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Shanaye Namah”, 21 or 25 times.
  • •Keep in mind: the date is an 8, which is also an Enemy number in your own row of our table (8 is not automatically friendly with itself). Keep your counts in 3, 5, 6 or 7 and wear dark blue, not black.

Mulank 9 (born on 9, 18, 27) · Mars (Mangal)

  • •Extra diyas: 5, 21 (3) or 41 (5).
  • •Your direction: South. Light a diya in the south part of the house, but do not sit facing south for the puja. South is also the Yama direction used for Yama Deepam on Dhanteras.
  • •Bhog and flowers: boondi laddoo or a jaggery sweet; red roses or red hibiscus (gudhal).
  • •Planet mantra: “Om Mangalaya Namah”, 21 or 41 times.
  • •Keep in mind: avoid counts that add to 2 or 4 (like 11, 13 or 22).

From Akanshha Joshii

“I have noticed that people sometimes focus more on the rituals in puja and forget the intention. Along with the puja, keeping peace, cleanliness and mutual respect at home is just as important. Keep the children with you in the puja and rituals too. Give them a small task and explain things to them properly, so they also understand the value of puja.”

Common mistakes

  1. Moving the altar to your Mulank direction. The altar stays in the north-east or north. Your Mulank direction only decides where your one extra diya goes.
  2. Sitting facing south. Sit facing east or north during the puja, whatever your Mulank.
  3. Starting the puja after the muhurat because guests are late. Start on time (5:54 PM in New Delhi). Guests can join the aarti.
  4. Letting the main ghee diya go out in the first hour. Use a big diya with enough ghee and a thick wick. Keep it away from curtains, and keep children and pets away from rows of diyas.
  5. Counting digits wrongly. 21 is 3, 51 is 6, 108 is 9, 13 is 4. Add every digit until one is left.
  6. Chanting fast to finish the count. A slow 21 with attention is better than a hurried 108.
  7. Sweeping the house right after the puja. Many families do not sweep on Diwali night after the puja. Clean in the day.
  8. Skipping Ganesh. Ganesh is always worshipped first, before Lakshmi.
  9. Doing the steps but forgetting the intention. Akanshha’s point: peace, cleanliness and respect at home matter as much as the ritual. Give children a small puja task and explain what it means.

What is the Lakshmi Puja muhurat on Diwali 2026?

Sunday, 8 November 2026, 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM in New Delhi, inside Pradosh Kaal (5:31 PM to 8:09 PM). Source: Drik Panchang, New Delhi. Check your own city on drikpanchang.com.

How many diyas to light on Lakshmi Puja?

There is no single fixed number. Most homes light one big ghee diya for Lakshmi plus diyas at every door and window. For extra diyas, pick a count that adds up to one of your Friendly numbers: for example 21 for Mulank 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9, and 51 for Mulank 4, 5 and 6.

Lakshmi Puja mein kitne diye jalaye?

Ek bada ghee ka diya Lakshmi ji ke saamne, aur baaki diye ghar ke har darwaze aur khidki par. Extra diyon ki ginti apne Mulank ke Friendly number se rakhein, jaise 21 ya 51.

Which direction is good for Laxmi Puja as per Vastu?

Keep the altar in the north-east (Ishan) or north and sit facing east or north. Avoid facing south during the puja.

Goddess Lakshmi should face which direction at home?

When you sit facing east or north in front of the altar, the idols face you, so they face west or south. What Vastu cares about is that the altar is in the north-east or north and that you do not face south while doing the puja.

Lakshmi mantra: how many times to chant?

One mala, 108 times, is the standard count of “Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah” for everyone. For your planet mantra, use the count in your Mulank section, such as 21 or 51.

Can I do Lakshmi Puja after the muhurat?

The Pradosh Kaal muhurat is preferred. If you truly cannot, many families do the puja later while the Amavasya tithi is still running, which in 2026 is until 12:31 PM on 9 November (New Delhi). Ask your family priest if you are unsure.

Which bhog is offered in Lakshmi Puja?

Kheel-batashe, kheer, sweets and fruits are the most common. Your Mulank section adds one item linked with your planet, such as kheer for Mulank 2 or besan laddoo for Mulank 3.
