Quick answer
Diwali 2026 is on Sunday, 8 November. There is no one lucky colour or number for everyone: it depends on your Mulank (birth day reduced to one digit). Mulank 1 wears golden or orange, 2 cream, 3 yellow, 4 blue, 5 green, 6 pink, 7 light yellow, 8 dark blue, 9 red. Use your Friendly numbers for diyas and shagun.
Find your Mulank: add the digits of the day you were born until one digit is left. Born on the 17th? 1 + 7 = 8, so your Mulank is 8. The free [Find your Mulank](/mulank) check also shows your planet, days and full lucky list.

The numbers of Diwali 2026
Using the same rules as our free tools:
- •8 November is an 8 date, ruled by Saturn (Shani).
- •The full date 08-11-2026 adds up to 0+8+1+1+2+0+2+6 = 20, and 2 + 0 = 2, ruled by the Moon (Chandra). Diwali is the Amavasya night, when the Moon is not seen, and the diyas take its place.
So when someone asks “Diwali ka lucky number kya hai?”, the day’s own numbers are 8 and 2. But your personal lucky numbers come from your Mulank, and those are the ones to use for diyas, gifts and shagun. The sections below give them.
How to use your lucky number on Diwali
Three simple ways, all used in Indian homes already:
- Diya count. Light a number of extra diyas that matches one of your Friendly numbers (5, 7, 11, 21 and so on; we add the digits, so 21 counts as 3).
- Shagun amount. Gift envelopes in India usually end in 1 (101, 501, 1100 and so on). Add the digits of the amount and pick one that lands on your Friendly number. Example: 501 is 5 + 0 + 1 = 6. 2100 is 2 + 1 + 0 + 0 = 3.
- Number of gift boxes or sweets you give from your side.
The person giving the shagun uses their own Mulank. You do not need to know the receiver’s.

Lucky colour and lucky number by Mulank
Colours are the lucky colours in our reports. Lucky numbers are Akanshha Joshii’s Friendly numbers for each Mulank, the same list our Lucky Number tool shows.

Mulank 1 (born on 1, 10, 19, 28) · Sun (Surya)
- •Wear: golden, orange or yellow. A saffron or mustard saree, an orange kurta, or a cream outfit with a heavy golden border.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9.
- •Diyas: 11 (adds to 2) or 21 (adds to 3).
- •Shagun: 101 (2), 501 (6) or 2100 (3).
- •Go easy on: black and very dark blue, Saturn’s colours. 8 is your one Enemy number, and the date itself is an 8, so let your Sun colours lead tonight.
Mulank 2 (born on 2, 11, 20, 29) · Moon (Chandra)
- •Wear: white, cream or light green. Cream silk with gold zari, an off-white chikankari kurta, or a light green saree.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5.
- •Diyas: 11 (2), 21 (3) or 5.
- •Shagun: 101 (2), 1100 (2), 401 (5) or 2100 (3).
- •Go easy on: black. Your Enemy numbers are 4, 8 and 9, and black belongs to Saturn (8). If your family avoids plain white at festivals, add a gold or coloured border.
Mulank 3 (born on 3, 12, 21, 30) · Jupiter (Guru)
- •Wear: yellow or violet. A haldi-yellow kurta, a purple saree with gold border, or a yellow dupatta over any outfit.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5.
- •Diyas: 21 (3), 5 or 11 (2).
- •Shagun: 21 (3), 201 (3) or 1100 (2).
- •Go easy on: too much shine and showy pink. Your Enemy number is 6 (Venus, the planet of luxury), so keep the look simple and rich rather than flashy. Avoid amounts adding to 6 like 51 or 501.
Mulank 4 (born on 4, 13, 22, 31) · Rahu
- •Wear: blue or grey. A royal blue or peacock blue saree, a grey silk kurta with silver work, or a blue Nehru jacket.
- •Akanshha’s tip for Mulank 4: Mulank 4 people often get confused about Diwali colours. She suggests trying navy blue, purple, green or gold shades, and choosing what feels comfortable and suits your personality.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 5, 6, 7.
- •Diyas: 5, 7 or 51 (6).
- •Shagun: 51 (6), 151 (7), 401 (5) or 501 (6).
- •Go easy on: amounts that add to 2, 4, 8 or 9 (like 101, 1100, 251 or 1111). Those are your Enemy numbers. 101 is the most common shagun, so this one matters for you.
Mulank 5 (born on 5, 14, 23) · Mercury (Budh)
- •Wear: green or light grey. Bottle green, parrot green, mint, or a grey outfit with green accents.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 3, 5, 6.
- •Diyas: 5, 21 (3) or 51 (6).
- •Shagun: 51 (6), 501 (6), 2100 (3) or 3101 (5).
- •Go easy on: nothing strict. Mulank 5 has no Enemy number in our table, so you are the most flexible of all nine.
Mulank 6 (born on 6, 15, 24) · Venus (Shukra)
- •Wear: white, pink or light blue. A rani pink saree, a baby pink or powder blue kurta, or white with pink thread work.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 5, 6, 7.
- •Diyas: 7, 51 (6) or 5.
- •Shagun: 51 (6), 501 (6), 5100 (6) or 151 (7).
- •Go easy on: amounts and counts that add to 3, your Enemy number: 21, 201, 2100.
Mulank 7 (born on 7, 16, 25) · Ketu
- •Wear: green or light yellow. A lemon or pastel yellow suit, a sage green kurta, or a light yellow saree with a green border.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6.
- •Diyas: 5, 21 (3) or 51 (6).
- •Shagun: 21 (3), 301 (4) or 501 (6).
- •Go easy on: nothing strict. Mulank 7 has no Enemy number. Pick soft shades; Ketu people usually feel best in calm colours on a loud night.
Mulank 8 (born on 8, 17, 26) · Saturn (Shani)
- •Wear: dark blue. Navy, ink blue or midnight blue with gold or silver work. Black is also your lucky colour, but many families keep black out of Lakshmi Puja, so navy is the better pick for this night.
- •Akanshha’s tip for Mulank 8: Mulank 8 people are the other group that gets most confused about Diwali colours. She suggests navy blue, purple, green or gold shades, while giving importance to your own comfort and personality.
- •Lucky numbers: 3, 5, 6, 7.
- •Diyas: 7, 21 (3) or 51 (6).
- •Shagun: 21 (3), 151 (7) or 501 (6).
- •Go easy on: 101, 1100 and 1001 (they add to 2) and 251 (adds to 8). Your Enemy numbers are 1, 2, 4 and 8.
Mulank 9 (born on 9, 18, 27) · Mars (Mangal)
- •Wear: red or pink. A red Banarasi saree, a red or maroon-red kurta, or a pink lehenga. Red is also the colour most families already choose for Diwali.
- •Lucky numbers: 1, 3, 5.
- •Diyas: 5, 21 (3) or 41 (5).
- •Shagun: 21 (3), 401 (5), 901 (adds to 10, then 1) or 2100 (3).
- •Go easy on: 101 and 1100 (they add to 2) and 1111 (adds to 4). Your Enemy numbers are 2 and 4.
From Akanshha Joshii
“In my experience, Mulank 4 and Mulank 8 people get the most confused about their lucky colours. I suggest they try shades like navy blue, purple, green and gold, but they should also give importance to their own comfort and personality.”

Common mistakes
- Using one “Diwali lucky colour” for the whole family. Red and yellow are festive for everyone, but each person’s lucky colour comes from their own Mulank. A family in four different colours is fine.
- Wearing black to Lakshmi Puja. Even for Mulank 8, choose dark blue for the puja. Many homes see black as wrong for this night.
- Giving 101 without checking. 101 adds to 2, an Enemy number for Mulank 4, 8 and 9. For them, 51, 151 or 501 fit better.
- Adding the digits wrongly. 1100 is 1 + 1 + 0 + 0 = 2, not 11. 2100 is 3. 251 is 8. Zeros add nothing.
- Mixing Mulank and Bhagyank. This page uses your Mulank (birth day). Your Bhagyank (full date) is a second number; our free check shows both, and the Lucky Number tool shows numbers friendly to both.
- Picking a colour you do not feel good in. Your lucky colour can be a border, a dupatta, a pocket square or a bangle. Comfort comes first on a long festival night.
- Thinking a colour alone brings money. Colour and numbers are small, steady supports. They do not replace your effort or your family’s blessings.

How we worked this out
- •Dates and timings: Drik Panchang, Diwali Lakshmi Puja 2026 page set to New Delhi (checked 30 Oct 2026).
- •Lucky colours: the per-Mulank colours in our report data, the same colours our free tools show.
- •Lucky and Enemy numbers: Akanshha Joshii’s friendship table, used across all our numerology tools.
- •Digit sums: every shagun and diya count was added digit by digit and reduced to one digit, the same way our tools reduce a number.
- •No promises: these are traditional, low-cost choices. They do not guarantee money, luck or any result.
