Here is the simple idea
Your birth time and place fix your Lagna, the sign rising in the east when you were born. Counting from it gives the 12 houses.
Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house is Mangal dosh. The same count is made from the Moon and from Venus.
Classical texts list conditions that cancel most of it: Mars exalted or in its own sign, Mars in Aries, Cancer, Leo or Aquarius, or Mars with Jupiter.

Questions people ask
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
Use the closest time you know. Mars’s sign rarely changes within a day, but the house from your Lagna can, because the Lagna moves about every two hours. The Moon count is less sensitive.
Is Manglik dosh cancelled after 28?
That is a popular belief, not a classical rule. The classical cancellations are about Mars’s sign and company, and the check tests those.
Does Manglik mean I cannot marry?
No. It is one factor families check, usually by matching it with the partner’s chart. The Kundli Report covers remedies and the matching.
