Quick answer
Dev Deepawali 2026 is on Tuesday, 24 November. The pradosh muhurat in Varanasi is 5:08 PM to 7:47 PM (Drik Panchang). Akanshha Joshii’s recommendation: light as many diyas as your Mulank (Mulank 1: 1 diya, up to Mulank 9: 9 diyas), and give daan within your capacity. You can do this at home too.
Find your Mulank: add the digits of the day you were born until one digit is left. Born on the 24th? 2 + 4 = 6, so your Mulank is 6. For the full reading with your planet, lucky days and colours, use the free [Find your Mulank](/mulank) check.

What Dev Deepawali is about
Dev Deepawali is also called “the Diwali of the gods”. It falls on Kartik Purnima. According to tradition, on this day Bhagwan Shiv killed the demon Tripurasur and freed the three worlds from his cruelty. To celebrate this victory, the gods lit lamps in Kashi, that is Varanasi, and the custom of Dev Deepawali on Kartik Purnima has continued since then. Drik Panchang also calls it Tripurotsav.
On this day thousands of diyas are lit on the ghats of the Ganga. Deep daan, puja and daan are all considered special.
The numbers of the day
Using the same rules as our free tools:
- •24 November is a 6 date (2 + 4 = 6), ruled by Venus (Shukra).
- •The full date 24-11-2026 adds up to 2+4+1+1+2+0+2+6 = 18, and 1 + 8 = 9, ruled by Mars (Mangal).

“The real purpose of any spiritual practice should be devotion, positivity and self-discipline.”
Oil, ghee and wick: does each Mulank need something different?
No. Akanshha Joshii says a different oil or wick for each Mulank is not compulsory. A diya with pure ghee is a shubh traditional practice, and you can use mustard oil too. She suggests normal clay diyas. Choose ghee or oil by your tradition and convenience. On this day shraddha, cleanliness and devotion matter most.
How to do it at home
You do not have to go to Varanasi. Akanshha Joshii’s simple steps:
- In the morning, clean the house well and keep the puja space clean.
- In the evening, do puja of Bhagwan Vishnu and Shiv ji at your home mandir.
- Light diyas according to your Mulank.
- Place diyas safely at the entrance and on the balcony.
- Chant Vishnu Sahasranama, a Shiv mantra or your Isht Dev’s mantra.
- Within your capacity, give food, clothes or useful items to someone in need.
If you cannot go to a river, light a diya in a clean space at home and meditate on Ganga Maa and Bhagwan Shiv.
